Christmas is a time of giving and receiving gifts and the holiday season is a time when people around the world celebrate peace and generosity. As we near closer to the end of the month, people are thinking of what gifts they plan on getting for others.

Junior Ashley Piotrowski elates, “I’m really excited to be getting my grandma a laptop that the whole family chipped in for. She has no idea!”

Others like junior Issac Luna plans to give something much more luxurious. “I want to get my mom some diamond earrings,” Issac said.

People are excited about giving gifts this season, but they are also ecstatic about receiving gifts as well. Senior Chavaya Parmlee said, “I hope to be getting this Christmas season new shoes, new clothes, video games, and I pod, camera, and books.” Talk about a Christmas list!

Even with the recession that we are in, it’s heartwarming to see that the spirit of Christmas isn’t gone. People may be wanting a lot of things, but other people only have one thing on their minds. Freshman Xavier Padilla certainly does. “Guitar Hero” is the only thing on his mind.

Others like English teacher Ms. DeGuire only wants one thing that she herself can give. “Lots of rest,” she said.

The popular gifts this Christmas season are obviously electronics. But we asked some people what they thought was most popular, and we came up with surprising results.

English Teacher Ms. DeGuire proclaimed, “Technology, computers, gift cards, and bling are the most popular gifts for the season.” As prediceted, many students at JHS said video games are going to be popular.

And now we come to the fundamental and most debated questions: Which is better? Giving or receiving gifts? Although many people agreed giving gifts was most important, several others believe otherwise. Junior Ashley Piotrowski said, “That’s a hard question. I suppose it depends on the gift you get them, whether it came from the heart, or whether it was worth a lot of money.”

Senior Chavaya Parmlee explains, “I believe giving and receiving gifts are both important because giving gifts shows that you care for that person, and receiving gifts notifies you of who cares about you.”

Many opinions are formulated by that question, but suffice it to say, we found in surveying JHS students that there are an equal number of people who believe in only giving gifts, people who believe only receiving gifts, and people who believe in both. So get out there and get some gifts people! Its almost Christmas already!
