Graduation rates continue to climb at Jefferson High School! From the classes of 2004 to 2009, it has increased by over 20%.
“JHS has the highest growth in the state!” Ms.Ortega exclaims. “But, we still have a lot more progress to make. Students are being held more accountable for their academics, attendance, and behavior,” Ms. Ortega comments.
JHS is adding classes that will help students graduate. They are also going to place students in classes that will meet them where they are academically, and take them to the next level! JHS is trying to create an environment that influences students to stay in school, to walk out of here happy with a diploma in their hands, and with a bright future.
High expectations from the principal, trickle down to every adult in the building. Thus, those expectations are transferred to the students from the teachers.
“We can get our graduation rates as high as 80% and that is our definite goal. It will take the efforts of the school, families, and obviously the desire of students,” Mr. White encourages.
“We definitely have some amazing students in the building,” Ms. Ortega comments. “The numbers of graduates are greatly increasing while the number of dropouts is decreasing year by year.”
“I think the adults are collaborating much more on the best strategies for students,” Ms. Ortega informs.
Mr. White compliments, “The graduation rate increased slowly until the class of 2009, in which the rate increased by 20%! They were very focused and they strived to be successful.”
Thanks to the teachers, staff and students, JHS has a very bright future!
