Have you been at school often? Then you have seen the new, cool Most Valuable Player sweaters for the MVP students only. On February 22, 2010 the MVP sponsors and the Addison Avenue Federal Credit Union held a meeting at Jefferson High. Many of the MVP students and their parents showed up to begin the evening with eating pizza, having something to drink, and candy. After that, they all went to the auditorium for a speech from the sponsors of Addison Ave.

“They talked about how to manage our money when we get older and to plan real good when we want to move out of our parents’ houses,” said sophomore Alberto Vasquez. The speech took over 30 minutes. After that, Mr. Hawkins told the MVP students to get their new sweaters.

MVP is a program for students at Jefferson High from 9th to 12th grade. Students get paid to come to school, obtain good grades, be on their best behavior, and get involved in school activities such as sports or clubs after school. The MVP students can’t get into fights, suspended or miss too much school. If they do, they get kick-out from the program.

Students then get a credit card from the bank Addison Aveue. and they can use their money in whatever they want. “This program is very helpful for students, plus its cool because we get money just to come to school and do well,” said senior Chelsea Garcia.

“The sweaters are very cool and really comfortable,” explained Chelsea Garcia. That evening they also did a raffle in which students could win gift cards for Target and Subway. The meeting lasted almost an hour from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
